ROCHESTER, MN - The Mayo Clinic and Charter Communications present Woven Harmony on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 7:30 PM in the Mayo Civic Center - Presentation Hall.

Imagine ?seeing? music as the artist does, weaving sound into fiber. Music equals sound waves. Color equals light waves. Together they yield Woven Harmony: A collaboration of classical guitar and tapestry art from guitarist Robert Bluestone and celebrated fiber artist Rebecca Bluestone.

Santa Fe husband-and-wife duo Robert and Rebecca Bluestone combine their talents in ?Woven Harmony,? a performance event that showcases Robert?s celebrated artistry as a classical guitarist and Rebecca?s remarkable tapestries. Rebecca projects images of her art onto an overhead screen and also displays several large works on stage. Her signature pieces are created with fiber patterns based on the ?Fibonacci sequence,? a numerical sequence in which each new number is the sum of the previous two. The tapestries display repeating squares grouped together in numbers that follow the sequence and use a rich range of colors created with aniline dyes. Rebecca has said that her husband?s guitar frequently inspires her art; Robert Bluestone, who has earned an international reputation as a virtuoso guitarist, accompanies his wife?s multimedia show with a performance of classical guitar pieces, detailing their history, composers, and significance for the audience.

The 2006-2007 season will feature a collaboration with composer Andrew York of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet. York has created a major new work for guitar inspired by Robert and Rebecca?s lives, their art and their aesthetic. Rebecca has created a body of work in response to Robert?s interpretation of York?s music. The WOVEN HARMONY SUITE will be a highlight of their multi-media performance for the season.

Robert and Rebecca will be in Rochester for a week-long residency in which they will perform numerous workshops and mini-concerts for Mayo Clinic patients and employees. Rebecca?s tapestries will also be displayed in various public locations throughout the Mayo campus. The focus of the residency is the healing effects that music and visual art can have on cancer survivors; something that Rebecca utilized in her own recovery from cancer.
