THE BIG WU
at: Mayo Park
7/30/2006 7:00 PM
Charter Communications and KROC FM present Minnesota based jam band THE
BIG WU (www.thebigwu.com) with opening act Moondawg on Sunday, July 30
at 7 PM in Mayo Park. All part of the 15th Anniversary Season of the
Down by the Riverside Free Summer Concert Series.
Formed in 1991 at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, the Big Wu
transformed itself from a Dead tribute band with a revolving membership
into the veteran stalwarts of the jam band scene.
Channeling a wide range of influences including bluegrass, rock, jazz,
psychedelia and R&B, the group built a strong local following thanks to
a rigorous live schedule, adding bassist Andy Miller in
1995 and keyboardist Al Oikari a year later. Completing the band as a
fully operational jammin' machine, the Wu began writing original music
while hosting weekly Wednesday gigs at Minneapolis' famed venue the
Cabooze; solidifying their fanbase and scoring a spot on the 1997
H.O.R.D.E. Festival.
