Sin-City

Review by: Evans

Sin-City
I think I'm ready to go... got my ticket stub, laptop, and my mitts.

Two word review: way cool!!! Psych... but I'm not gonna get all "movie
reviewer"
on you by expounding and starting to use words like STUNNING...
MESMERIZING...
PROVOCATIVE... But I will use the words cool, awesome, and unique - and I
will
expound. With the names Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino attached to
it,
you should be expecting something great. Good news, you get it. Before
going any
further, I'd also like to toss in the word rad.

The main theme of this movie is "What a guy will go do for the woman he
loves."
All 3 "main" characters were truly driven by the desire to avenge, save,
and/or
protect their gals. We're loyal puppy dogs. Well, at least us good ones
are.

The woman who can learn to read her man, to see when his confidence is
shaken, and
assure him that even if he cannot believe in himself at that moment, she
still does,
that woman will inspire loyalty that would shame a dog.
- Vox Day

These 3 tales aren't really like that. These guys are not necessarily
running the
race with their gals cheering them on from the sidelines, but thats a funny
(and true)
comment so I figured I'd toss it in. These are pretty much tales of pure
revenge,
rescue, and protecting - in that order. This is the dregs of society and
we get
reminded throughout the movie by the actions of these guys that they aren't
necessarily
good. Bruce Willis is the only categorically good guy in the movie and he
does some
things not by the book. But it is (Ba)Sin City, and even the law is not
the law in
someplaces.

I must say, I have never fallen in love with a movie character faster
than I did
the night I met Miho. No plans yet for the wedding, but I will keep you
posted.
She had "Kill Bill" written all over her. Thanks QT.

Frodo Baggins has never been creepier. If the oversized hairy feet
freaked you
out, then Mr. Frodo's blank stare will definitely keep you up at night.

Mickey Rourke as Marv is one of the coolest characters in a long time.

Nice to see Rutger Hauer again. He's always been on my list of favs ever
since I saw
"Wanted: Dead or Alive." Here, he has a short role portraying a bald,
younger George
C. Scott and he pulls it off with ease. I wouldn't have put it past
Quentin to have
Drew step in and blast a couple fireballs to totally complete the
look-a-like for me. I could
totally see that happening. I'll just have to wait for the guest
director's cut.

Also nice to see Powers Boothe, but they shouldn't have waited so long to
bring him
into the story. Playing the villan, he could have been in every scene with
that Curly
Bill Brocious laugh. Just standing in the background, in the shadows,
barely visible,
laughing... with a cigar. I'm not saying the movie needed it, but I
wouldn't be complaining
if they did that.

Try not to take any ideas in the door with you, just blank your mind and
go be entertained. It was one of those movies where it seemed like everyone that got cast was the perfect person to play that role. Expect some off the wall stuff, sit back, and enjoy.

Until that day,

EVANS = "to see"
