Miami Vice

Review by: Evans

Nery Vice!

I am going to write a review of this movie and aim it right at the spinal
medulla at the base of your neck. You will start reading and thus, I will
hit my target. This will not necessarily leave you instantly numb from the
neck down, but it may leave you feeling slight hunger or gas pains.

Kudos to "Miami Vice" for giving the movie watcher credit. As I have
mentioned in the past, I will again call to the stand what will now be known
as the "Sheridan Rule". Paraphrased, the rule states that you should make
sure your movie isn't filled with stuff that doesn't mean anything to the
plot and thus is something that people probably don't need to see. For me
it goes further and becomes something I don't want to see. Or I should say
didn't want to see. Miami Vice is the new model for how to do this.

Vice lets the movie watchers play out some of the story in their heads. Its
some of the story, but none of the action. They don't take you through
every little painstaking detail of things that you can assume. Take the
first deal for instance. They show the beginning of the deal, but we never
see Crocket and Tubbs meet up with the buyer. We just see life further on
down the road and it is mentioned that everything went well and they
continue their business undercover. How about the trip to Cuba? Sonny
inquires about how they are going to just roll up and dock the boat. His lady
friend says don't worry, so we don't. The movie goes on with us not seeing
the actual docking, but knowing everything went fine. I really liked that about
this film.

Colin Ferrell just exuded "stud" in this movie. I never really had an
opinion of him, but now I am leaning toward a thumbs up. Jaime Foxx was
also very good. These guys played really cool partners. I don't recall
them going into very much detail, but you really got the sense just from the
way they carried themselves that these guys were with each other 100%. We
don't find out that Sonny saved Tubbs' cat from a tree that one time or Tubbs
beat up the guy that was stealing Sonny's milk money. Other than Tubbs saying
"I'll never doubt you." there wasn't much else, but again you knew these guys
were pretty much the quintessential best friends. You might say 'nothing much
besides a multi-season TV show' - duh! Well even for those unfamiliar with
the TV show, they should get it.

Boat guys and gals will love the scenes with speed boats.

Car guys and gals will love the Ferrari.

Speed freaks will like them both.

So are the 80's back? Since there's already talk of a snowball's chance in
you-know-where of there being a sequel to Vice (darn!!!), if they are back then
what's next?

Airwolf? A-Team? Knight Rider? MacGyver? I can't wait to find out!

Until that day,

EVANS = "to see"
