Inside Man

Review by: Doc

I plan to see it again...
The film opens with Clive Owen and a calm and steady monologue. Pay attention, he really does choose his words carefully. This tale of a bank robbery gone bad begins with a bang and never lets up.

Owen plays Dalton Russel, leader of a gang robbing a downtown Manhattan bank, or are they? They immediately engineer a hostage situation and into the fray comes Denzel Washington as the NYPD lead negotiator, Christopher Plummer as the bank owner with a secret, and Jodie Foster as, something. She appears to be sort of a fixer of situations for the moneyed with a past or a problem. Everyone of note seems to owe her for something, and hate her because they can’t tell her no. They are all excellent in their roles, but Washington and Owen are a pleasure to watch as Denzel realizes something else is going on and their verbal sparring escalates. Has Owen really thought of everything? Why is he so confident? Who is the “inside man”?

I will spoil as llittle as possible. The movie requires attention to every detail. Nothing is as it seems, and the resolution will surprise. It’s not quite The Sixth Sense, but it is close.

I plan to see it again. I give it 4 ½ of 5 scalpels and a shocked phalanx up.
