Ice Age 2: The Meltdown

Review by: Evans

I will stop just short of calling this an excellent film...
Another night out with "The Gang"...

One more animated film means out more night out with my best buds under 13 years old.

I will stop just short of calling this an excellent film and I will explain a bit later. But we have
another cool story with enough jokes and entertainment to keep adults interested and
enough jokes and entertainment to keep children interested. They ran a good spectrum
of what we'd probably see, and have seen, in mankind when disaster seems eminent.

We have the typical "old" character who won't be moved without force. They grew up here
their whole lives and faced countless trials and either aren't quitting now or are under the
'I lived here so I will die here' mindset. We see the "doomsday" character who is trying to
make a quick buck off of the situation or just generally enjoys seeing havoc or even enjoys
creating havoc. We see "followers". Then we see the "hero". The one who takes charge
and against not only the odds, but perhaps even the will of many followers, pushes forward
with the "right" and not necessarily the "popular". There's even a nice touch of putting others
before yourself.

There are also many nice, what I'll call, breaks in this movie. I heard some bad talk about all the
scenes with Scrat, but then another friend said it was like having commercials. I couldn't agree
more. and I might add, very good commercials too - like the way Super Bowl commercials used
to be. Each one was hilarious. And then there was the scene with the "fire god". I will say no
more.

Why not an excellent film you ask? One word... cursing. This film got a PG rating and maybe its just
me, but that kind of says to me "acceptable for kids". Maybe I am in the minority, but I do not find the
use of curse words as something acceptable to be passing by the ears of children. Especailly when
its someone elses children. It didn't add to the "realness" of the film and was just flat out unnecessary.

So apart from 2-3 cuss words in what (at least) I consider a kids film, you'll want to go and see this.

Until that day,

EVANS = "to see"
