Coming in March, traditional Irish music from the Celtic band FLOOK (www.flook.co.uk) on Thursday, March 23, 2006 at 6:30 PM in the Rochester Art Center Grand Lobby. From Ireland via the UK comes an inventive and exciting group, featuring melodically dazzling flutes over a hard-driving rhythm section of guitar and bodhran. Flook is a quartet of two Irish and two British master musicians who come together to create what The Scotsman calls ?one of the most enthralling sounds around.? The flutes of Brian Finnegan and Sarah Allen, the guitar of Ed Boyd and the bodhran of John Joe Kelly weave and spin traditionally rooted tunes into a breathtaking sound. This group possesses a rare blend of fiery technical brilliance, delicate ensemble interaction and a bold, adventurous musical imagination. Like many other Manc Irish bands, Flook's music mixes Irish traditional with many other styles and traditions, however they are a purely instrumental band. Their amazing 1999 "Flatfish" album is testament to their diverse talents. Heralded by almost every music publication available, the album earned the band labels like 'the best young musicians in the land' and 'the best celtic album of 1999', with John Joe being crowned the greatest bodhran player alive!
