Flightplan

Review by: Evans

Cancel the Flight
Cancel the Flight

Growing up my mother told me that if you didn't have anything nice to say
about someone (or thing) then don't say anything at all. But that would
leave you empty handed and potentially with 8 less dollars in your wallet.

Because I hate wasting money and hate watching others waste it, I will
forge
ahead. Sorry mom.

"A Hollywood Minute" would say that everyone liked this movie the first
time
around, when it was called "Panic Room". I couldn't agree more. Let's see

- Jodie Foster plays a newly single mom trying to start over with her
daughter, mayhem ensues, the daughter is at the center of the struggle, and

mom overcomes.

Are there really no other scripts in Hollywood? Forget that Hollywood is
up
to the usual again and giving us a majority of movies that seem to not be
thought out very well, but think about the scenario where Jodie Foster
looked over some scripts and this was "the one"? Maybe she just likes
playing "panic mom"? C'mon, she's better than that.

I mean, should some of these movies even be made? Or at least made at the
time they were made? We've already suffered through "Dante's Peak" vs.
"Volcano" and "Deep Impact" vs. "Armageddon" and "The Fast and The Furoius"

vs. "Biker Boyz". Now we have "Red Eye" vs. "Flight Plan" (vs. "Panic
Room"). They say timing is everything in life and apparently "they" don't
live in Hollywood. Or "they" do and they just don't get it. When in
Rome...

This movie might have worked if they would have just made it a sequel:
"Panic Plane". But then it probably would have only as been as successful
as "Speed 2", if it isn't at that point already.

This movie relied on mystery and suspense and thanks to the previews, I was

not convinced that she was a psycho and that her daughter wasn't real. So
I
sat there waiting to figure out where the bad guys had the daughter hidden
and who the bad guys were.

SIDE NOTE - When are we going to stop getting previews that either:

A. Show us the only good parts of the movie, and I mean the ONLY good
parts

OR

B. Show us answers or secrets to "mysterious" plot points

There's a fine line of playing out the movie so that there are some twists
and turns that confuse and frighten the audience and leaves them not able
to
guess the ending- BUT IT HAS TO MAKE SENSE! We are not unfrozen cavemen!

The whole "new stewardess acting strange" thing was poorly done. The big
"mystery" thing that I won't ever figure out is the deal with the Arab
guys.

I say I won't figure it out because I would have to see the movie again to
see if the Arab guys she sees in the window across from her apartment are
the same guys on the plane, and I won't be seeing this one again. But even

if they aren't, why are two Arab guys, or any guys, or even girls, standing

at a window looking out "suspiciously" at nothing?! (For more on this "it
has to make sense" theme, please see the review for "Stay")

I think the only thing that could have happened that would have made me
write something good about this movie would have been a second "clap"
scene.

If the Arab guy would have started a clap when she went walking to the
ambulance/limo/vehicle (whatever it was), that then turned into a gauntlet
of claps that she walked through as they parted like the Red Sea... oh yea!

If you're gonna be cheesy, you might as well go over the top and hope it
turns into comedy.

The suspense and drama just wasn't gripping enough to keep me interested.
Like I mentioned before, I was already beyond any twists and turns and
simply waiting for the expectant plot to unfold, which it did, to my
dismay.

I am not sure that I went in expecting too much and ruined the whole
experience. I actually wanted to see this movie and thought it looked
cool.

Oh well. Enjoyment has been delayed for another 2 hours.

Until that day,

EVANS = "not to see"
