Page 1. Good morning folks... oops - wrong Harvey.
So have you heard from Dillon? He was supposed to meet me at the Peach Pit
but he... oh boy - wrong show.
Ah, that's right. It's "Domino". A beautiful and enigmatic film director
who is obsessed with romance... geez - wrong Domino.
Domino Harvey! Bingo... ??
Anyway, how did this movie only get 1 star or whatever low rating it got by
people that get paid to write reviews and/or
give out gold stars? Or is that just an internet rumor that I heard? The
only thing I can see that might be a downside is
the likeness to MTV (or to any commercial for some "extreme" product), the
one that doesn't play music videos, the
one with massive cuts and short clips of scenes, matched with what seems
like tons of closeups and loudness. Editting
thats... busy. It didn't bother me much and I actually thought it was
pretty cool. The way they had the "later that day..."
text poping up during the voice overs was a nice touch. It was something
different and every once in a while, thats good.
I am not sure how much is real, but if these characters are even halfway
like what they are (were) like in this movie,
you probably don't want to meet them. As for the plot, I put this in the
"you have to read the book to understand
what's going on in the movie" class - baloney! I'm here to see a movie, it
doesn't have to be real, it has to make me
feel like I didn't just waste $8 + 2 hours. It does.
Speaking of the characters, Rourke follows up "Sin City" with another sweet
performance. Hopefully he's getting into
this "guy that shows up in every new movie" rutt. Especially if he's
playing these tough, hard-nosed characters. He's
the guy that gets to say and do whatever he wants and no one can do
anything about it. We all dream, at least once in
life, of getting to be that guy - "Man if I could just..... then I
would....." The thing is, most of the time the could and would is
nothing good or honorable - thats another topic. Bottom line, he plays a
really good bad boy.
Edgar Ramirez as "Choco" - WHOA. Insane is what they call him in the movie
and that's pretty much what he is. They
should make a movie about this guys life.
Christopher Walken = pure hilarity.
For a while there, near the end, I thought I was watching "Fear and
Loathing in Las Vegas" or the peyote scene in "Young Guns" or
even "The Doors". I thought I was gonna have a seizure during the
mescaline endused Winnebego carnage scene.
Speaking of the Winnebego. They should most definitely rebuild this sucker
on Monster Garage, with some personal
Jesse James touches of course. A 50mm machine-gun out of the top would be
a good start to give it more "teeth".
I wonder if they are selling any replicas on ebay that didn't get crashed
during filming?
I'll be watching for one to pop up under my Christmas tree.
Overall, some good action, some good comic relief, some good explosions,
and some good characters.
Until that "good day",
EVANS = "to see"
