George and Helene Butler are entering a new phase in their lives – one they have been looking forward to for some time: The empty nest. Retirement. With their first son teaching at MIT, their second happily diving into his own adventures of married life and their third off to begin his college career, it is now time to sit back and enjoy each other’s company – alone, together. Ha!

In this there are four-letter words and then there are four-word phrases that you might consider describing with such an expletive – “Hi Mom, I’m Home” is just such a phrase (OK, we don’t want to get into a debate on whether “I’m” is one word or two!) for George and Helene. Number one son decides he has had it with MIT; Number two son decides he has had it with marriage; Number three seems to be doing OK, but takes pity on a somewhat “dynamic” coed who needs a place to stay and sends her to Mom and Dad! The empty nest is suddenly overflowing!

We often have presented farces for our April productions – perhaps in honor of tax time, but more likely because we know that both we and you enjoy them. Well, there is enough commotion in this show to think it farcical. However, there comes a time when truth is stranger than fiction, and for those of you who have experienced the refilled empty nest, or watched friends experience it, you’ll find that this show is truly “Truth, Injustice, and the New American Way!” The comical aspects of this show will have you rolling in the aisles. At the same time, we all really hope that George and Helene will finally get the chance to turn their “spare” bedrooms into a den and an office. Will it happen? Or will they be doomed to spend their retirement years with adult children (oxymoron fully intended)?
